The Climbing Tower offers 5 different "courses" offering different levels of difficulty, some easy enough for my 4 year old to enjoy and some are quite difficult. This offers kids a great activity to keep themselves entertained while having fun and staying active.

"The Tressle" bridge used to carry the old railroad that traversed the area. Now the tressle is home to some of the areas best fishing. Served as a hot spot for fisherman, and a trail for walkers and bikers, the tressle is a classic structure of the Okobojis. We spent days jumping off of the tressle doing cannonballs, preachers, flips and the like. I know in my life my friends and I have caught literally tens of thousands of crappie and blue gill off the tressle bridge.

I had the opportunity and privilege to work at Triggs for 4 years in my high school and college years. Jim Triggs and Mike May run one of the best family resorts in the Lakes Area. The resort has 48 condo style units that are continually updated and maintained immaculately. It truly is a family resort as most units are rented each week every year by the same families. People really begin to know each other and I had a great time getting to know all of the families better each year. We always looked forward to seeing them each year and catching up. Located at 314 Rohr Street in Arnolds Park sits a great family park, with newer playground equipment, a basketball hoop and a shelter area.
Also located here is the Sawmill Bridge which separates Upper Gar Lake and Lake Minnewashta.
Don’t share this secret too far, but this is a good location to catch a fish or two at certain times of the year.

Speier Park of Okoboji

Located at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Sanborn Ave in Okoboji and across the road from the airport, this is a very family friendly park with lots to offer.

Tennis courts and a basketball court are available. Also, one can use the very nice and newer shelter to entertain a family outing. The kids will have plenty to do at the play ground as well, with slides, swings, tether ball, monkey bars and more. Also, pets are allowed if kept on a leash.

Also, the kids can enjoy watching airplanes land and take off with the Spirit Lake Municipal Airport runway directly across the street.

Lake Park is one of the few cities around the Iowa Great Lakes that has an outdoor public swimming pool. It offers some great rates for annual memberships. 2016 family membership was $100 and an individual membership was only $65. They also offer swimming lessons, starting as early as infants and toddlers. Specific evenings also offer classes for adults. The pool's normal hours of operation in the summer are 1PM to 8PM.

In 2013 the Lake Park Housing Authority was established to provide assistance to low and moderate income housing. The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors voted to release over $400,000 of TIF monies from two housing development projects to the Lake Park Housing Authority. Arrowood is a year-round conference center and hotel with over 100 guest rooms, whirlpool suites and a "Great Room" for hosting group events and hospitality suites. Formerly known as Village East, the resort offers an outdoor pool, deck, playground, volleyball and croquet courts and a heated indoor pool area. Hotel goers can also enjoy an on-site salon, Minervas Bar and Eatery and lit parking. Located on Brooks National Golf Course, Arrowwood Resort offers some of the finest lodging around. Years ago, Brooks Golf Course clubhouse was actually housed on the rear side of Arrowood, but since then, the course has been converted to 27 holes with a a new separate clubhouse. Also, the Racquet Club was a part of the facility, offering workout facilities, racquet ball, and tennis. However, with the addition of the YMCA, the racquet club was unsustainable and converted into retail.

Spirit Lake Municipal Aiport

For those of you not familiar with the area, wondering what the story is behind the runway in Okoboji, here is a little information for you.

At the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Sanborn Ave in Okoboji is the Spirit Lake Muni Airport.

This airport publicly-owned and is not intended for large commercial airlines coming and going, it is for smaller, private plains to come and go. Often the runways are busiest Thursday/Friday afternoon and Sunday during the summer months bringing some of the lake home owners to and from the area to enjoy what the lakes have to offer.

Its almost here!!! Walleye Weekend marks the beginning of another great summer here in the Okoboji Area. Anglers from all over come to try and catch the prize fish. Our local DNR tag and release specific Walleyes while they are gillnetting in the Spring. Whether you are fishing from shore or by boat, you cannot go wrong. For most leisure boaters in the Iowa Great Lakes, there are 2 main hot spots to go throw an anchor, sit back, and just relax. Sometimes this will result in numerous boats tying up to one another (you may not even know your neighbor), and sometimes it results in a little more privacy where you can chill just by yourself. Every weekend, boaters make the trek across the deepest parts of West Lake to either Gull Point (North AND South side) and Miller's Bay. Thought there are many other great areas to throw an anchor, relax, and swim, these are the two hot spots. If you aren't sure where to go on a Saturday afternoon or wonder where your friends might be, these two spots would be a good start.
